GreenMap MIT began in August 2003 as a project by MIT Urban Studies major Jerrad Pierce to plot the location of recycling bins on campus as an effort to dispell the oft cited excuse for not recycling that, "There aren't any recycling bins" as myth. The project has since grown considerably in extent and scope to include all of Cambridge and a wide variety of features. We recently published, and are currently distributing, our first official map. Future goals include: a web map service, additional coverage of Somerville, and a larger second edition of the free paper version of the map. Volunteers and donations are always welcome!
